Child Helpline number – A Lifeline for Children in Need

Is a child in trouble? Lost, stranded, or facing a crisis? Want to help but don’t know how? Just dial 1098 – the Government of India’s toll-free child helpline number.

The Government runs many programs for child care and protection. As part of these efforts, Childline 1098 was started to ensure that any child in danger can get immediate help. The number 1098 is short and easy to remember so that anyone—even a child—can call without hesitation.

Children themselves can also dial 1098 if they feel unsafe or need urgent help. Once the call is made, a rescue team is quickly sent to the child’s location to provide protection, shelter, or rehabilitation support.

How Does 1098 Work?

When someone dials 1098, the call connects to a control room at the state headquarters.

For example, if the call is made from anywhere in Bihar, it will be directed to the Patna Childline control room.

The system also receives the caller’s location through the network.

A call operator listens carefully, notes the details, and alerts the nearest rescue team.

The rescue team then reaches the child and provides the necessary help.

Childline 1098 works under the Child Protection Department, where officers and rescue workers give top priority to children’s safety and welfare.

Why Everyone Should Know About 1098
Children’s safety is a national responsibility. Every person—whether parent, teacher, or citizen—should know about this helpline. By spreading awareness of 1098, we can ensure that no child is left helpless in times of need.

So remember, in any child-related emergency:
👉 Just dial 1098. Help will reach the child quickly.
