Nepal’s Political Turmoil: Should India Be Alarmed?

The unfolding political crisis in Nepal has once again raised concerns across South Asia. With the resignation of the Prime Minister and President, growing unrest among the youth has led to violent protests. The sudden shutdown of social media acted as a trigger, fueling anger and distrust towards the government. But the way they are  doing is never acceptable.

For today’s generation, social media is not just entertainment; it is livelihood, connection, and identity. Its abrupt suspension feels like a direct assault on freedom, pushing young citizens toward open rebellion. But this outburst is not merely about social media—it reflects deeper dissatisfaction that had been simmering for years.

For India, the crisis in Nepal is not an isolated issue. Recent turmoil in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh has already shaken regional stability. If Nepal too descends into prolonged unrest, India will inevitably feel the impact, given their deep cultural, geographical, and strategic ties.

The critical question remains: is this unrest organic or externally orchestrated? If foreign elements are involved, India must remain highly vigilant. With its own vast population and complex social fabric, any ripple effect could destabilize the region further.

Democracy thrives on dialogue and flexibility. Governments must recognize that youth are the backbone of a nation. Listening to their concerns, addressing their demands, and avoiding rigidity in decision-making is not just wise governance—it is essential for peace.

Nepal’s turmoil, therefore, is not just a national crisis—it is a lesson for the entire subcontinent.
